Simon and Chris at the store

Chris Jaquette and Simon Thompson bought the Asheville Wild Birds Unlimited store in February 2008. Chris, originally from Delaware via Atlanta, has lived in Asheville for 20+ years, while Simon is a relatively recent transplant- being originally from England. Chris brings a lot of horticultural and retail skills to the store while SImon has been birding his whole life and leads birding tours all over the world. www.birdventures.com

For more information on the shop surf through the "Virtual Tour" links.

Next up is Elizabeth Davis.  She grew up here in Asheville (a rarity!) and attended UNC-Greensboro, where she majored in Art. After graduation she taught English in Niigata, Japan for two years, all the while bemoaning her lack of a proper bird guide.   Elizabeth learned her birds from her parents at a very young age and still enjoys birdwatching wherever she goes.
She has worked at WBU for several years now and has developed a bit of a weakness for Songbird coffee and Renaissance jewelry.

Al Oesterling has worked at the store since we bought it back at the beginning of 2008. He retired down to Western NC after working for Xerox in Rochester, NY for 35 years. He fed birds before moving down here, but now spends more time out looking for different species, as well as enjoying such diverse interests as old cars, local history and visiting local garage sales!

Rob Goulding helps out from time to time- including several years before we bought the store. He has another of those funny English accents, but is from London. He's a retired detective and has lived in Asheville for about 10 years.

More on the way, but we must not forget Emma, our store cat and chief mouser. She is the latest in a long line of shop cats and has been in the shop since March of this year. She produced 3 of the sweetest kittens who all have new homes. By watching here prowl around the shop, you can tell who is the real boss around here!

And another very cute shot!

Audrey is Chris's Mum and she comes in once a week to organise paperwork, open the mail and other important tasks. She also makes a very nice line of beaded jewelry.
