September Blooming Calendar
As we enter autumn you’ll notice a decrease in the number of flowering plants in bloom. There will still be a wide variety of:
Goldendrods - Solidago spp.,
Asters - Asteraceae spp.
Turtleheads - Chelone spp.
Joe-Pye Weeds - Eupatorium spp.
Ironweed - Vernonia noveboracensis
Gentians - Gentiana spp.
Witch Hazel - Amelanchier arborea - this flowering tree will bloom through October.
As the number of blooms decreases, you can find many of the fruits from previously blooming plants. Some of the more commonly seen fruit are:
American Mt. Ash – Sorbus americana
Burning Bush/Heart’s a bustin’ – Euonymus americanus
Dolls Eye/White Baneberry- Cimicifuga pachypoda
False Solomon’ Seal - Smilacina racemosa
Smilax – Smilax spp. (Fruit)
Solomon's Seal - Polygonatum biflorum
Sourwood – Oxydendrum arboreum
Trillium - Trillium spp.
