Here are some of our favorite birding (and other) links:

Birding Links

Explore North Carolina's Birding Trail from the mountains to the coast:     http://ncbirdingtrail.org/

Like to go birding both in Western north Carolina and overseas? If so, we heartily support Ventures Birding Tours (I wonder why?)   www.birdventures.com

Another great spot in the NC Mountains is Chimney Rock Park. Yes, I know that it can get a bit crowded in the summer and over holiday weekends, so get there early and during the week, if you can. Simon leads about 6 birdwalks a year in the park: www.chimneyrockpark.com

We have our own chapter of the National Audubon Society here in WNC- the Elisha Mitchell Audubon Society. They offer monthly birdwalks and programs (see our monthly calendars) and run the wonderful Beaver Lake Bird Sanctuary)- How about paying your dues and joining us? http://www.main.nc.us/emas/index.html

Natural History

Another local botanical link is Scott Dean's website: Check this out for great local tours in WNC.  www.WNCNaturally.com

The Foothills Equestrian Nature Center (FENCE) in Tryon, NC is a wonderful 380 nature education and recreation center set in rolling countryside and rich woodlands. Enjoy the hiking trails throughout the year. Information at http://www.fence.org/

Another great local place is the North Carolina Arboretum. With extensive planted and natural grounds and a world class exhibit area, it's a must visit place when you visit Asheville (or even if you live here in WNC!) http://ncarboretum.org/

Another issue we are dealing with in WNC is the Black Bear population and their love of bird seed and feeders. There is an excellent website out of Whistler, British Columbia with good facts about living with bears: http://www.bearsmart.com/index.html

Great Places to Stay

How about an escape to the Mountains of WNC? -  Check out our friends at Snowbird Mountain Lodge. It's the perfect place for a relaxing get-away to watch birds, hike, look for wildflowers or just relax and do nothing....and yes, we have done so many times. www.snowbirdmountainlodge.com

Good Local Folks

Another great local business is our friends over at  www.oldenglishcars.com  If you have an English car that needs some work, take it to Tony and Jennie.

Another local fellow designs affordable homes (don't we all need one of those!). Check Eric's site out at http://www.willowhillhomes.com/

Some folks are just so talented- if you need any hand painted tiles or wrought iron, check out our friends at Salud Forge in Tryon, NC. Bill and Kathleen own and operate a beautiful forge and gallery in Tryon.  Check out their website at http://www.saludaforge.com/ or stop by our store as we have several of their pieces in stock.

If you like local wildlife art, check out Fran Brook's website.  www.artistnannie.com  - we sell her notecards in the store, and also have several originals on the wall. (PS: The meadowlark is beautiful!!)
