Nature Happenings
- Oct. 4: Full Moon, Oct. 18: New Moon
- Oct. 13: Venus & Saturn next to each other in the early morning sky
- Oct. 21-22: Orionids meteor shower
- Autumn colors peak in the third week of October.
- Groundhogs feeding heavily for hibernation.
- White-tailed Bucks go into rut.
- This is the month to install and repair nest boxes for use next year.
- Waterfowl migration continues to build.
- Ruby-throated Hummingbirds depart this month.
- Look for Rufous Hummingbirds to arrive in Maryland and Virginia, with a few in WNC
- Most Wood Ducks move out of the mountains and migrate south this month. A few stay to over winter.
- Juncos and White-throated Sparrows become common at feeders.
