Some folks ask why, but we have piles of bird seed in the store, and bird seed attracts mice, so.................we needed a cat. Actually the shop has had cats for years, but none since we bought the store in February 2008. About 6 weeks ago we trapped a stray cat outside our house in North Asheville and took her to the shop. She was very shy and timid to start with, but soon started venturing out of the back room to explore her new home. We named her Emma and then discovered that the local Tom cat had already paid her a visit. 2 weeks later she gave birth to 4 kittens. Three survived and they are getting a lot of attention here at the store. All have new homes so they will be heading out when the time is right. Photos by Scott Dean and Winnie Hough
